Is Plasma Donation Right for You? Here's How to Know
Most people who wonder if they can donate — can. Here's how to find out in about two minutes.
If you've been curious about plasma donation but haven't pulled the trigger, there's a good chance one question is holding you back: Am I even eligible?
It's a fair question. And the answer is more often yes than people expect. Here's a straightforward breakdown of who can donate, what the screening looks for, and how to know if Parachute is the right fit for you.
The Basic Requirements
To donate plasma at Parachute, you need to meet a handful of baseline criteria:
- Be between 18 and 64 years old
- Weigh at least 110 lbs
- Have a valid photo ID
- Have your Social Security number available (first visit only)
- Be in generally good health — no active illness or fever on the day of your visit
That's the starting point. Most adults who are otherwise healthy meet all five without any special prep.
Things That Might Affect Your Eligibility
A few common situations that can affect whether you can donate on a given day — or at all:
- Recent illness or fever — wait until you've fully recovered
- Certain medications — some prescriptions and even some OTC medications can cause a temporary deferral; disclose everything at screening
- Recent tattoos or piercings — may require a waiting period depending on where and how they were done
- Pregnancy or recent childbirth — donors need to wait a period of time after delivery before being eligible
- Certain travel history — recent travel to specific regions may result in a temporary deferral
- Low hematocrit or protein levels — often fixable with better hydration and nutrition before your next visit

The Fastest Way to Find Out
Parachute has a short donor assessment quiz that takes about two minutes. It's designed to give you a quick read on whether you're likely to be eligible before you ever walk in the door. It's not a medical screening — your official eligibility is confirmed at the center — but it's the fastest way to go from "I wonder if I can donate" to "I have a visit booked."
Most people who take the quiz and are curious about donating end up being a good fit. The barriers are lower than most people assume.
